SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge Teams, Volunteers, & Industry Supporters,
The Keweenaw Research Center along with Michigan Technological University have determined that 2020 would be their last year to host the Clean Snowmobile Challenge. Over the past 21 years this competition has served multiple participants and teams with the opportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills by applying learned classroom theories in a challenging competition. Although primarily an educational program, students were able reengineer an existing snowmobile to reduce emissions and noise and improve fuel economy. Snowmobiles are primarily a recreational vehicle and winning teams created snowmobiles that were fun to ride as well. Many technologies showcased at CSC over the years have ended up on modern day snowmobiles. More importantly, thousands of new engineers were exposed to a real-world problem and they built their resumes along with their snowmobiles.
SAE International would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers from Industry and from State and local organizations who contributed to the program. This program was a success due to your generosity and hard work over the years.
CSC 2021 was a “Virtual Knowledge event that challenged students to model their designs and its performance. The home team, Michigan Tech won in case you did not hear. All the 2021 results can be found here. SAE International’s Pre-Professional Education Team will be working on future program announcements and will have a decision on the 2022 Event by June 2021. We encourage all teams to monitor https://www.sae.org/attend/student-events for the latest news in the Collegiate Design Series and the Emerging Technology Series of programming.
Again, thank you for your contribution to competition-based engineering education.
